Why We Picked Sliding Puzzle - The 15 Puzzle

Fifteen numbered tiles and a single gap, arranged the way they have been since the puzzle was a plastic toy. Tap the tile beside the gap and it moves, which sounds trivial until the last two numbers refuse to sit still no matter what you try. Three board sizes and automatic saving make it a reasonable thing to leave open in a tab for a day, especially once you know the last-row trick.

How to Play

Three things decide whether a run here goes well:

  • Tap the tile that borders the gap and it slides across into that space.
  • Put the numbers in order from one to fifteen, one row at a time.
  • Fix a stubborn final pair by parking one tile below and sliding the other in.

Editor’s Note

No timer and no fail state, so the only pressure is the one you bring. Your game is saved automatically, which makes it easy to pick up mid-solve the next morning without losing the row you fixed.

Sliding Puzzle - The 15 Puzzle brings the classic number-sliding brain teaser to your screen in a clean, familiar form. If you have ever held one of those little plastic grids with fifteen numbered tiles and one empty space, you already know the deal: slide the tiles around until every number sits in order. It is a relaxing way to give your mind something satisfying to chew on.

Playing is effortless. Tap or click any tile next to the empty space and it slides into the gap. Repeat that move by move, gradually walking the numbers into sequence from one to fifteen. There are no timers shouting at you and no fail states, so you can solve at whatever pace suits your mood, whether that is a slow, thoughtful session or a race against your own best effort.

The game comes with three difficulty levels and lets you choose the size of the puzzle, so it grows with you. Smaller grids are friendly introductions that almost anyone can finish, while the larger boards demand real planning, since one misplaced tile can force you to dismantle rows of correct work to fix it. Your game is saved automatically, which means you can close the page mid-puzzle and continue exactly where you left off later.

A method beats guesswork here. Solve the grid row by row from the top, locking in finished rows and never touching them again. When the last two tiles of a row refuse to cooperate, move the target tile into position first and then slide its neighbor in behind it using the row below as working space. With a little practice this technique makes even the biggest boards feel manageable.

Sliding Puzzle - The 15 Puzzle is perfect for players who want a calm, classic logic game with no pressure. It runs free in your browser and remembers your progress between visits.
