Merge Challenge
Why We Picked Merge Challenge
The 2048 rule with nothing added: equal tiles merge, the board fills from one side, and the run ends when no move is left. What makes it worth a page is how quickly a comfortable board becomes a trap, usually because a large tile drifted into the middle two moves ago. There is no timer, so every loss is a planning failure you can trace back to one slide, which is the only lesson the game teaches.
How to Play
Three things decide whether a run here goes well:
- Slide all tiles in one direction to combine equal numbers into a larger one.
- Keep the biggest tile pinned in a corner so it stops blocking merges near the edge.
- Fill the board with small tiles near the corner you chose, never the opposite one.
Editor’s Note
The listing describes this in fourteen words, and the game needs no more than that. A single session runs until the board jams, which is usually sooner than you expect from a 2048 clone, and there is no undo to rescue it.
