Falling Blocks - the TETRIS game
Why We Picked Falling Blocks - the TETRIS game
It is the classic shape, unchanged: pieces fall, you rotate and place them, and completed rows disappear from the stack for good. The only real decision is where the next single piece fits without leaving a well you cannot fill later, and that decision repeats every second or so of play. Openly a tribute act rather than a reinvention, and it never pretends otherwise; twenty-seventh of 31 in Strategy is a fair summary.
How to Play
Three things decide whether a run here goes well:
- Slot each falling piece into a gap along the bottom so the row completes.
- Complete horizontal lines to clear them; a stack that reaches the top ends the run.
- Keep the surface flat and avoid leaving a single-column well you cannot fill.
Editor’s Note
The rules are the ones you already know, with no modernization and no campaign around them. Fine for a few minutes at a time, and the publisher's own description runs to a single sentence. For reference: 234 plays, 4.2 out of 5 from 6 ratings, and 27 of 31 on the strategy shelf.
